Etruscan: goldsmith shop

Objective

Promote awareness of Etruscan culture through the housing analysis as well as the artifacts used; focusing on the goldsmith’s production.

Theoretical part

During the first part of the lecture, students will be accompanied to the pertinent room of the museum. A video-projection will illustrate the fundamental topics of Etruscan daily life and their productions.

Practical part

The workshop regards a manipulation of metals and a recreation of a fibula.

The origin of writing: the famous Egyptian

Objective

Know the fundamental characteristics of art and writing in the Ancient Egypt.

Theoretical part

The itinerary examine the art and written topics in the Ancient Egypt. Through the video projection, children will observe the evolution of Egyptian art, its artistic and religious components.

Practical part

Reconstruction of Egyptian decoration and a papyrus made by natural material.

The origin of writing: alphabets and materials comparison

Objective

Introduce the basic knowledge of the writing evolution through the manifestation of the main ancient Mediterranean civilization encouraging them the analytical and learning capacity.

Theoretical part

The itinerary includes a video-projection regarding the origin of writing in the Sumerian Age up to the Egyptian techniques.

The video-projection will be supported by material, observed during the guided visit, present in the museum in the Etruscan (e.g. ‘Lecu’ amphora) and Roman rooms (e.g. coins of ‘Fornacette closet’).

Practical part

Through the illustrative materials, the students will write the alphabets showed on tablets.

Prehistory: from seed to flour

Objective

Know the main productive activities of Neolithic.

Theoretical part

The itinerary includes the visit to the material displayed in the Museum. Will be observed the life-sixe reconstruction of part of the prehistoric village of Podere Casanova as well as its original finds. We will illustrate the stages that brought to the productive economy during Neolithic Age.

We will illustrate the wheat milling techniques and the earliest utensil made to make children understand the importance of the invention of the first mills driven by manpower.

Practical part

Experiments the cleaning of the seeds and stone grinding.

Prehistory: the first fabrics

Objective

Know the fundamentals stages of the human evolution and the earliest technical and technological discovers of Neolithic Age.

Theoretical part

Through the video-projection will be illustrated the fundamental stages of human evolution, from the first hominids to the Neolithic Revolution. We will focus on to the reproduction of vertical frame displayed in the museum of the finds of the Podere Casanova village, and to the panels “Man and plants in prehistory” concerning fabrics and natural coloring.

Practical part

Experiments the weaving techniques by plain loom, manufacture of fabrics.
